Webkinz Toys and Extravaganza

This weekend is the Webkinz Extravaganza celebrating the third anniversary of the Webkinz toys. If you aren’t familiar with these stuffed animal toys that come with a code for online playing, you can read my earlier review here. For the celebration, many retailers are offering a free Webkinz with any $10 purchase. A lot of the stores are offering free parties with Webkinz themed games and prizes. Our stores here are hosting games like the Wheel of Wow, the Wishing Well, a live Gem Hunt, a Coupon Machine, coloring contests, a Jellybean Challenge, and a fashion “Stylekinz” contest. Webkinz As a Homeschooling Tool?

If you’re not familiar with Webkinz, you’ve been living under a rock and you need to come out. Seriously. Basically, it’s a stuffed animal that you buy that comes with a code. The code gives you access to a really great website. . .a virtual world just for Webkinz. Lauri Griffin in the Fun blog, has written a great article about how her family uses them to keep up with each other over long distances. After all, Webkinz World would not be complete without a way for webkinz to stay in touch with each other. My three oldest children have … Continue reading

Webkinz – Long Distance Relatives

I’m always looking for ways to stay in touch better with friends and family who are far away. My kids aren’t great about talking on the phone. And writing letters seems impossibly old-fashioned to them. So I was thrilled with a new way for them to get to know their grandmother and cousins better. A few weeks ago, my mother-in-law sent all of her young grandchildren some new stuffed animals. The animals were cute, but much more than stuffed toys. They are called Webkinz. They come with a secret code that gives the child a year’s membership to an online … Continue reading

Cousins

When I was a young lad I had great times with my cousins. Particularly, I had great times with my “other brother” (as we lovingly referred to one another). While my family generally stayed in the same town, his moved from place to place all across the country. While we didn’t see each other very often (once a year would be a treat… maybe even just for a funeral) the times we spent together cemented our friendship well into adulthood. Even though he’s currently on another continent we’d pick back up in an instant through a simple text chat. The … Continue reading

Virtual Pets

In addition to any real pets you may have, do you also claim any virtual pets? I don’t. But I think if Wayne finds out about them, the next time I feel like adding to our family, in addition to his “We don’t need any more animals,” spiel he always gives me, he also might add, “But if you really feel you need another, get a virtual pet.” What’s a Virtual Pet Anyway? That’s what I was curious to know. I kept stumbling across the term. At first I thought it was something where you make a donation to virtually … Continue reading
