Can You Have A Happy Halloween Without Candy? Yes!

This evening, I took the boys out for more extensive Halloween activity than we have ever done before. This was Dylan’s third Halloween. For his first Halloween, he was a little bear and we only went to the children’s costume parade downtown. Last year, we did nothing. I forget why, but we did not dress up or go anywhere. This year, we all dressed as firefighters (even the baby) and went out two times. For both outings, my goal was the same – to have fun with Dylan and Blake without the boys eating any candy. As we drove towards … Continue reading

Deals at Chipotle, White Castle, Little Caesars, and More!

Many restaurants will choose to have their deals expire on the very last day of a month. This is good for frugal families who are paid monthly. The exact same time you are running low on funds is when the restaurants, cafes, and fast food places are giving you a deal! This blog will help you save money while dining out. Beef O’ Brady’s is having Beef’s Octoberfest. They have a coupon for $5.00 off a $25.00 purchase or $3.00 off a $15.00 purchase. This coupon will expire on October 31, 2012. Nick Lachey and Jessica Simpson are Pregnant!

Okay, the title of this blog is a bit misleading. The one time reality television couple is pregnant, just not with each other. If you’ve seen a recent photo of Jessica Simpson, you know that she is very, very pregnant. In fact, it looks like she is about to pop any day now. After much speculation, Simpson released the news last Halloween with a tweet that said, “It’s true – I’m going to be a mummy” along with a pic of her dressed as a mummy. Baby daddy is fiancé Eric Johnson. (This image is a work of a U.S. … Continue reading

Enjoying the Holidays One At a Time

I was shopping three weeks ago at a popular store and was a little surprised. Now maybe it happened last year, but I don’t think so or it would not have struck me so hard. Mind you, it was around the second week in October that this occurred. While I was making my way around the store shopping for various items for my household I maneuvered my cart around the corner to proceed to the next aisle. As I carefully wheeled my cart around the corner there it was, a Christmas tree. Really, mass merchant chain store? This year you … Continue reading

Keeping Pets Safe on Halloween

Halloween is my favorite holiday. I think it’s due to many happy childhood memories I have of this season and of this holiday in particular. But it just might be my pets’ least favorite, as a new report calls Halloween the most dangerous holiday for pets. The Baltimore Sun has the scoop from the Pet Poison Hotline. Just hearing the name of the company releasing the report makes it obvious why Halloween is considered so dangerous: chocolate. That’s right; the hotline says that calls made to it go up 12% this time of year. The first step I should take … Continue reading

Designing a Denizen of the Deep Costume

Last year, my daughter took a huge chomp out of Halloween dressed as a kid-eating shark. The getup was purchased from Old Navy and elicited more than just a few oohs, aahs and smiles from neighbors. The rest asked me how much the shark costume set me back. Like most store-bought Halloween costumes, the plush denizen of the deep getup cost a pretty penny. Whereas I could have waited until mid-October when Old Navy discounts its Halloween costumes by 40 to 50 percent, I knew there was no way I would be able to find my daughter’s size if I … Continue reading

“Cars 2” Trailer Released

I’ve possibly been a bit unfair towards “Cars” in complaining that it gets a sequel, the forthcoming “Cars 2,” when it’s my least favorite Pixar film. I know “Toy Story 3” was fantastic, but I just wasn’t as excited for it or into it as I have been for years about Pixar, because I’m sad that they’re not being encouraged to further innovation. Unfortunately for it, “Cars 2” has borne the brunt of my disgruntlement over the whole issue. Its existence incorporates all the things I don’t like about the direction in which Walt Disney Corp. CEO Bob Iger is … Continue reading

Halloween Craziness

I’m not a big Halloween person. As a kid, I’m sure I was. But, now, not so much. However, I do have kids, so I’m trying to get into the spirit of Halloween a little more. My four-year-old has definitely figured it out. She knows what it’s all about. Candy. Lots and lots of Candy. My sister and I were talking about how it has gotten a little out of hand though. Since when did Halloween turn into a celebration as big as Christmas? It seems to last a week long now giving our kids enough candy to last until … Continue reading

Does Your Family Have Stories About Halloween?

Halloween is a time of year that brings back memories for some people. This is a great time of year to collect and record some really funny family stories. Ask your relatives what they dressed up as for Halloween when they were children. This is a good way to connect with living relatives, and to get a glimpse of what they were like as children. It is also a great way to get someone to tell you a story from their past. My family enjoys Halloween, and there are many family stories connected with Halloween that are fun to share. … Continue reading
